Overview

Celebrants is Nickel Creek's first album of new material in nine years since 2014's A Dotted Line; the band announced the 18-track album in January 2023 as an exploration of togetherness. Strangers was shared as the lead single to coincide with the album announcement.

The band views Celebrants as a story told song by song with recurring themes, melodies, and characters ; the opening tracks focus on acquaintances who have not seen each other in a while, bouncing between the benefits of reunion in Celebrants and the potential drawbacks in Strangers.
